with Dan, a Tower of Terror Cast Member
How long have you worked at WDW?
A little over a year and a half going on my second year
Where in WDW do you work?
MGM Studios... Tower of Terror previously Fantasmic!
What does your job involve?
At Tower of Terror your top priority is always to be safety no matter
what else is happening... Performance Themeing is the major thing
the bellhops try to maintain it helps deliver individual attention
as well as tell the story of the hotel.
What do you like most about working at WDW?
The positive guest interactions... There are a lot of terminally
ill children from "give kids the world" and "make
a wish" that come to Disney World and seeing them happy and
excited really does make it all worth while...
Do you have any secrets or inside info you can share about
Fantasmic or Tower of Terror?
At Tower of Terror both shafts the drop shaft and the one that brings
you up to the corridor scene and the 5th deminsion are both real
elevators, the vehicle locks in place in the drop shaft because
the elevator pulls you down faster than gravity and the motors that
are at the very top of the building are more powerful than the ones
previously used for the elevators at the world trade center... Also
nearly everything you see in the lobby is a true antique.
Do you have any tips to people who are planning to see Fantasmic
or ride Tower of Terror?
If you are going to see Fantasmic! on a really busy day check to
see if there is more than one show of Fantasmic that day if there
is always take the latest show possible you will have the best seat
and you will not have to wait as long to see it... If there is only
one show you would have to get there rather early to get a seat
in the middle or the mickey section but you can see the show from
all over the amphitheater.
Do you have a particular magical memory that sticks in your
mind, from working at WDW?
I was at load at Tower of Terror when I heard a boys voice say "I
hope Dan is here again" and as they walked around the corner
in the boiler room the entire family was excited to see it was me
and I was able to put them on their own elevator that night about
10 minutes later they returned with a bag of pictures that they
had bought from that ride and wanted me to sign them! that was exciting
for me to know I made a difference in their family vacation!
