A Disney Vacation Can Give Your Routine a Good Workout
Going on vacation doesn’t have to mean taking a vacation from fitness.
At least, not at Walt Disney World Resort. Abundant health club facilities,
paths and trails for jogging and biking, tennis courts and spas cater
to the needs of health-conscious guests. Here’s a summary of offerings:
Workout Facilities
Fitness buffs can pump it up at any of the health club facilities located
in the Disney resorts. Programs and state-of-the-art equipment are available
to guests at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney Institute, Disney’s
Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Old Key West
Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Disney’s
Wilderness Lodge Villas, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s
Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Jogging
Lace em’ up for a run on one of Walt Disney World Resort’s scenic jogging
trails. A sylvan 2.2-mile trail threads through Disney’s Fort Wilderness
Resort and Campground. Take a leisurely three-quarter-mile stroll on
the promenade that surrounds Crescent Lake and connects the Epcot resorts
or the 1.4-mile promenade around the lake at Disney’s Caribbean Beach
Resort. Small jogging trails are offered at Disney’s Contemporary Resort,
Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
Biking
Guests can pedal their way to adventure with more than 10 bicycle rental
locations at Walt Disney World resorts. Guests can spend an afternoon
with the wind in their hair on bicycles or charming four-seater surrey
bikes that resemble covered carts.
Tennis
Walt Disney World Resort has some 30 lighted tennis courts. Amenities
include ball machines; racquet rental and a hitting wall.
Marathon Weekend
The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is a four-day family event in
January featuring road races for athletes of all ages and skills, free
seminars by fitness experts and celebrities, and a health and fitness
expo. Athletes from around the globe compete in running events that
include the most magical 26.2 miles on the planet, the Walt Disney World
Marathon. Other running events over the weekend include a half marathon,
5K run and a series of children’s races plus the famous “Diaper Dash”
for toddlers. Information and registration is available by visiting
www.runningnetwork.com, www.disneyworldsports.com or by calling 407/939-7810.
Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex
Thousands of amateur athletes at all levels from youth through college
decide dozens of conference, regional and national championships each
year at Disney’s own sports community -- 200 acres of perfectly manicured
fields and diamonds plus a fieldhouse that reverberates with court action.
Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex was designed for both athletes
who participate and spectators who cheer the action. The two-tier ballpark,
Cracker Jack Stadium, features 80 percent of its 7,500 seats between
first and third base, and there isn’t a bad vantage point in the 5,500-seat
fieldhouse, The Milk House, with its vintage design.
Spas
After a tough workout in the gym or strenuous activity in the warm
Florida sun, guests can wrap up the day with a relaxing hydromassage
to soothe aching muscles and stimulate circulation. The luxurious spas
offer a balanced program of beautifying services (such as facials, manicures
and pedicures) and wellness services (such as massage therapy and body
treatments). Full-day, half-day and individual treatments are available.
Spas are located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa
and Health Club as well as the Disney Institute.
Dining
With more than 500 food and beverage locations across Disney property,
there are many options for health-conscious guests. Table service and
larger quick-service menus offer low-fat, sugar-free,
and vegetarian selections. Chefs are focused on using high-quality ingredients
that are fresh and free of additives and unnecessary preservatives.
Any special dietary need or desire can be accommodated with 48-hour
notice by calling 407/WDW-DINE.
