Day 1 – 4 Oct 03
We planned to wake up at 3 am and be out of the house by 4 am.
And of course we woke up well before the alarm went off. My wife
and I started by taking showers and then woke up the kids. They
too got ready quickly and oddly enough we were ready to go by 3:45
am. I had expected to be still hustling the kids well after 4:30.
Since I packed the van the night before all we had to do was make
sure we had our last minute items and turn everything off. Once
in the van we said a prayer for a safe and exciting vacation. The
Good Lord must have heard because we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
I won’t bore you with the details of the drive suffice it
to say that we drove from Huntsville Alabama to Orlando in about
eleven hours. One thing I do have to mention is that we intended
to take I-75 to the Florida turnpike and take exit 285 down to highway
192. For all of you taking this route there is no exit 285. It is
in the Rand McNally atlas but it doesn’t physically exist.
So we ended up going all the way to I-4 and then back around. Our
hotel was Orbit One Vacation Villas and is located west of Disney
maingate on US-192. (Irlo Bronson hwy) After check in we went to
our room and found it to be very nice. It’s basically a two
bedroom timeshare. Tile floor, full kitchen, large master bedroom
with a king size bed, and three TV’s. We were very happy with
the room. We bought groceries at the super Wal-Mart near Kissimmee
and then enjoyed a steak dinner at a Ponderosa.
After getting back to the room we talk a little about the next
days activities. Universal Studios. The big item everyone seems
to want to go on is the MIB ride. My kids say they will all get
the high score, but we will see if ol’ dad still has a few
tricks up his sleeve.
