Resort facts

If you wanted to stay in all the guest rooms in all of the hotels and resorts currently open on Walt Disney World property (at a rate of one per night), it would take more than 61 years.

All Star Music

The musical notes on the front desk are from 'When You Wish Upon a Star'.

All-Star Sports

It would take more than 20 million 12-ounce cans of Coca-Cola to fill one of the humongous Coke cups at the Home-Run Hotel in Disney's All-Star Sports Resort.

It would take nearly 9.5 million tennis balls to fill one of the tennis ball cans at Center Court Hotel in Disney's All-Star Sports Resort. That's enough to stretch from Walt Disney World to Key West.

Port Orleans

The musical staff notes across the registration desk at Disney's Port Orleans Resort spell out the first verse of "When the Saints Go Marching In."

Yacht & Beach Club

Stormalong Bay holds 750,00 gallons of water, making it the largest sand-bottom pool in the world.

Polynesian

A wave machine was built under the Seven Seas Lagoon, but the waves caused erosion of the beach, so it was shut down.

Wilderness Lodge

Wilderness Lodge is themed after the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone. The two 55 ft totem poles - the eagle and the raven - were carved in Washington State.

The towering centerpiece of the lodge is a massive, 82 ft tall, three walled stone fireplace. There are even fossilized remains of prehistoric animals and plants.

The cricket noises you hear are actually coming from speakers.

Contemporary

The mosaic mural in the fourth-floor lobby of Disney's Contemporary Resort was created in 1971 with 1,800 1-square-foot tiles and took 18 months to construct.

One of the goats in the mural has 5 legs.

Fort Wilderness

The small white horses - Lippizans - at Tri-Circle D Ranch are the horses used to pull Cinderella's carriage in certain parades.

Grand Floridian

The design team working on the resort visited the Bellevue Biltmore in Clearwater, Florida; the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan; and the Del Coronado in San Diego, California. The Bellevue Biltmore provided ideas for materials, dormer shapes and size. The Del Coronado has similar colours and some similar elements. The Grand Hotel fascinated the designers because its size didn't affect its ambiance and character - it is truly grand without overpowering the guests.

"All of the sand on the beaches of the magic kingdom resorts came from the bottom of bay lake when it was drained and the mud removed in 1971, during the construction of the Magic Kingdom"
