"The cabins
are the most wonderful place to stay. Very quiet, clean and lots
of different activities. My mother, son and I took a carriage ride
and the driver let my 2 year old sit up front and steer the horse!!
It was very convenient for a mid-afternoon break, we would barbacue
and rest and then take a boat to the Magic Kingdom. My family has
stayed off property our first trip in 1989 but have gone back year
after year and stayed at Fort Wilderness, we can't imagine staying
anywhere else!!!! The buffet breakfast at Fort Wilderness is cheap
and SOOOOOOO good!!! Plus the servers are very friendly and make
ait a truly unique experience." (3/03) Shannon
"We stayed
in the wilderness cabins, which was just roomy enough for our bunch
(my husband and me, our 2 kids, and my parents). We had a wonderful
houskeeper who left special towel animals for my daughter everyday.
The kitchen was great for breakfast and lunch but we never actually
cooked anything. The only problem was the transportation system.
You had to take two busses to get anywhere and with an infant, his
carseat/stroller, diaperbag, etc. getting on and off was a major
ordeal. We loved the cabin but wouldn't go through the bus problem
again for anything!" (11/01) Paige
"Stay at Ft
Wilderness.. the camping area. There is so much to offer there!
Pools, playgrounds, a petting zoo, horseback riding, bikes, canoes, paddle
boats and boats with motors to rent, outdoor movies and singing
at night.... and if you must go in to a theme park, then there is
always that, too!!Ft. Wilderness has the hotels, the cabins, motor
home hook-ups and tent space." (7/02)
"Fort Wilderness
is a great place to stay I stayed there with my family for Christmas
and we loved it. We loved it so much that we are going back next
Christmas. If you plan on going BE SURE to rent a golf cart for
the time you are there. All though there are busses to take you
around .. it is much more fun to have a golf cart to go to all the
events in the park... plus pools stores and resturaunts... The park
is a mile long! so it is pretty big... Oh and besure to order the
golf cart about a year in advance they fill up fast! If you aren't
able to get one you can be put on a waiting list when you get to
the Resort and you can sit there and wait for s omeone to return
there cart early! It worked for us! We were put on the wait list
we waited about 20 minutes and we got one!!! There are a ton of
things to do here.. there are 2 pools! HEATED AND BIG nicee. and
everything... this place is the best campground we have ever been
too! There are even little golf cart parking lots and each space
has an outlet for you to charge your car!! and you can dirve them
at night because they have headlights!!! Just call the bikebarn
in Fort Wilderness to r eserve one!" (12/01) Tim
"We love the
campground as long time campers... No other campground is like Fort
Wilderness. It is top notch, really perfect. The campground is clean
and quiet. We have stayed at the campground 9 times and 8 times
we had a preferred site with full hook-ups. worth the extra .From
the time you drive up to the check-in until the sad time when you
check out every thing is handled Disney style. The food at the Pioneer
Hall is pretty good. We were at Fort Wilderness for the Thanksgiving
Holiday and looked forward to a nice turkey dinner. It was the first
time we were not happy with the food. I think the turkey was turkey
roll or something not what we had expected. Every other visit and
there are many we had been happy with the food. We visited Disney
many times and different times of the year. November, April, July
April is a very busy time with most schools out for a week anytime
during the month of April It sure would be nice if the parks were
open late like other times during the year." (4/01) cindy frank
"We absolutely
loved it. I wouldn't stay in a hotel again when visitng Walt Disney
World. Our campsite was clean and the facilites from bathrooms to
pool were excellent. We enjoyed the great Disney movies at night
and transportation during the day. We always came back to our site
for lunch and dinner with time for the kids to rest. It was so much
better with rested kids and they enjoyed the parks more too. Its
a great way to spend the week and still feel like your home a lit
t le. We're planning our next vacation there in October of 2002."

"This was
mine and my children's first time (my husband went many years ago)
to Disney World and we decided to stay at Fort Wilderness. The cabins
were clean and roomier than a hotel would have been. The conveince
of a "resort" with the feel of a home. One helpful hint.... bring
plenty of cereal and other quick foods. The full sized fridge was
helpful for drinks. The money we saved on sodas and water went toward
extra souveniers. There is plenty to do at the campground, please
al l ow one day just for the grounds. If you have the room bring
bikes, rollerblades or scooters. The bus service does take some
getting used to, but some of the drivers are a hoot and make it
a fun ride. Look for the albino peacock (near the restaraunts).
The food at the restaraunt (Trade Post) could have been better.
The hospitality was great (from guests and employees). Do keep in
mind that this is a campground therefore it is rustic and there
is wildlife. Racoons and peacocks are very common to see and are
not to intimadated by humans." (4/01) Suzanne
"I guess my
family is spoiled. We have a nice, comfortable home. While these
places are nice, they are cramped. In the bedroom, I got the spot
next to the end table, because I'm a smoker and need the ashtray.
Hubby got stuck jammed next to a wall. All week he called it his
"rat hole" --Hard to get in and out of. Would have loved to get
rid of the bunk beds in there and just have the bed and some space.
In the living room, the Murphy bed is comfortable. The love seat
is not comfortable. Usually, we pulled the bed down so daughter
could lie down and we could sit on the love seat and stretch out
our legs. Better, comfort wise, but you had to climb over the bed
to get up and down. And then we all repeatedly stumped our feet
on the corners of the bed. Finally we piled pillows around the bed
corners to spare ourselves further injury.
We used the fridge, and we used the toaster for some English muffins,
and the coffee maker. Never even turned on the big stove. We always
went to a restaurant for dinner. A place with a tiny fridge, coffee
pot, toaster and microwave would have been all we needed.
Some of the info I read said these places have two televisions.
Ours didn't. A TV in the bedroom would have been very nice. The
place had a huge deck. We sat on it, once, to read the paper on
the last morning. It was surrounded by swampy water. Evidently the
area has been extremely dry for a couple of year, and they just
had heavy rains. Water did not drain. All week trucks were sucking
water out of places all over the campgrounds. In some cabin locations,
it really looked bad. I don't know if these water pools are permanent
fixtures in some locations. I do know that I didn't find it appealing
to sit on a deck surrounded by swamp.
More negatives: Something was wrong with the electric. The plugs
in the kitchen would not always work. And the TV reception was horrible.
Positives: It's in DisneyWorld !!! It's shady and dark in the morning
. making for good sleeping-in if you want to. Comfortable mattresses
and pillows. Cold air-conditioning. A nice big bathroom and plenty
of towels. A great maid. Quiet and peaceful. Pleasant, if plain
swimming pools. Cute light fixtures.
I think this would have been a great place to stay if I had, say,
two small children. There's lots for little kids to do and lots
of room for them to run around outside. And if I wanted to cook,
(which I didn't). I liked it okay. So did my kid. But my husband
missed his creature comforts: our comfortable sofa at home, our
good cable television, and our roomy bedroom. We aren't much on
rustic. It was so hot during our trip that we needed to hang out
inside of the Cabin more than we would have during other seasons,
so the lack of space and television probably bothered us more than
usual. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll stay there again.
Overall: It's very nice ... we just aren't camp people, I guess,
even in a nice cabin." (8/01) Chris Garrigan
"On our recent
trip (Dec 2000) we stayed in a wilderness cabin. I must say that
the cabin proved to be quite comfortable. As to the campground itself
we enjoyed the views and the hayride, we highly recomend the late
hayride, during the Electrical Water Peagent and the fireworks show
from the Magic Kingdom, incredible. The Hoop-Dee-Doo was a bit disappointing.
The petting zoo was a huge delight to both our young son and ourselves.
Take the boat launch to the Magic Kingdom then the monorail to the
TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center to get to Epcot. The bus routes
are a major pain with young children. So if you go to the Studios
or Animal Kingdom, drive, parking is free for resort guests. We
also enjoyed the campfire program immensly, very popular though
so arrive early." (2/01)
"We stayed
in a Fort Wilderness cabin in October, 2000. We loved it. We were
able to cook most of our breakfasts and dinners, saving lots of
money (we have 4 kids). The cabins were very private, and having
2 TVs helped out in the evening. I would definitely go back there
again." Cheryl (2/01)
"fort wilderness
is one of the if not the best resort WDW has on their property.
i have stayed there a total of 7 times and will go there for many
years to come. the sites are large and most are very private. the
fishing is unbeliveable. the pool are large but in the summer they
are a little to warm (turn the heater down). it is a shame that
they shut there beach down because i always loved swimming in there
rather then the pools. the transportation is great but can get confusing.
ne way i would recommed this resort to ne 1 that enjoys the outdoors."

"in march '99,we stayed at the F.W.resort and are going back
in 2001,it was amazing!!everywhere and everybody was fantastic!our
lodge was spotless, and our maid had a great sense of humour,as she
proved by moving our 2 kids toys around,so it looked like they'ed
stopped playing as we opened the door!!!a week was tiring, but only
because the kids slept& the adults couldn't wait for the next day!!i've
never felt so relaxed & safe in such a big and busy place, the only
downsides, are that you have to come back!!,and it's along way from
guernsey!!:-)> " rik. 8/00
"If you have older children or would just like to be able
to be in separate rooms sometimes, the Wilderness Homes are a great
value - an extra room without paying suite prices."
"We enjoyed our
stay at the campground and found everything first class but we had
trouble understanding the transport to the parks and back the guide
was not very clear maybe someone should look into making it easier
to know what buses take you where."
"I loved the Disney
wilderness campground! The sights are very private and loved the
ease of getting my 35 foot 5th wheel in......everything is very
handy and will be returning soon."
