"My family and I had a great time at The Wilderness Lodge. Our room had a partial view of Bay Lake. We paid for a courtyard view but were upgraded to a suite with a refrigerator at no extra charge. The staff was very courteous and pleasant. The lobby was breathtaking! My 2-year old son was in awe. Although we loved the lodge itself, I have to agree with several other comments regarding the transportation. We had to share both the boat to Magic Kingdom and bus to Epcot with Fort Wildreness on every occasion. Plus, we often had to wait more than 20 minutes. I don't think we will stay at The Wilderness Lodge again for this reason. Next time we will choose a resort on the monorail. We previously stayed at the Polynesian and the transportation was very efficent." (7/03) Leah H.

"The rooms were very well kept, and the location was great we were in a room overlooking the main pool and geyser. The rooms were not huge but large enough for my wife, my mother, and step-father to enjoy them. The best place to eat was the Whispering Canyon. It was great the service was top notch, as well as hilarious. I highly recommend asking for ketchup or anything for that matter. Also as my wife learned don't order it if you can't finish it. She ended up having to sing to a man at the next table for his birthday. Overall excellent choice and the whole family will enjoy. The resort is very nice and located perfectly in my opinion. It was very easy to get to all the parks as well as downtown disney. It's worth it if only for the water taxi you can take to the Magic Kingdom. The grounds were well kept, and there isn't a palm tree in sight. Very authentic to the North West. The hotel itself is a must see, all of the decorations are perfectly placed. I think what I enjoyed the most was just the feeling of relaxation, you'd think you wouldn't feel that at a Disney property." (12/02) Justin Hooper

"We loved our stay at the Wilderness Lodge. The lobby and scenery around the lodge are gorgeous. Being from the Pacific Northwest, we enjoyed the woods and liked the outdoor theme throughout the hotel. All staff members were very friendly and the service was excellent. Our room was on the 5th floor and we looked out towards the woods with a partial view of the lake. We enjoyed the location of the room and besides hearing the horn of the boat as it left for Magic Kingdom, it w a s a quiet location. The roaring forks cafe was great place to pick up something quick to eat, plus if you buy a souvenir mug you receive free refills of soda, tea, coffee during your stay. One night we ate at the Whispering Canyon which provided a fun atmosphere plus great food. Our kids (7 and 4 yrs old) loved the pool. The slide was a big hit too! I read a lot of reviews prior to our trip and mostly read negative comments about the transportation from the WL to the theme parks. I was p l easantly surprised on how quick and efficient the bus service was from the WL to the theme parks. On occassion we shared a bus with Fort Wilderness, but we never waited long for a bus and the ride was a lot more quicker and enjoyable than I was lead to believe. We never waited over 10 minutes for a bus to take us to or from the lodge. We are already planning our future trip to the Wilderness Lodge...." (5/02) sjc

"My husband and were VERY impressed with Wilderness Lodge. The detail of the theme is amazing. The rooms were comfortable and clean and well worth the price. This resort also has a lot of Hidden Mickeys if you enjoy the search. Whispering Canyon Cafe was probably our only dissapointment at Wilderness Lodge. The food was not as good as many other WDW restaurants and the service was very slow. Artist Pointe was pricey but what should be expected of that type of cuisine." (10/01) Cindi Rosebecke

"We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge on several occasions. On this trip we were traveling with a group of 12, my brother who is handicapped and 4 children ages 3,4,6,9. When I made our reservation the reservation specialist assisted me greatly. She put a special note on our reservations through a special request line.Because we were traveling with my brother and he had special needs, this request guarenteed us ground floor and adjoining rooms. As slways, our rooms were clean and t he service and atmosphere were outstanding. I have never been disappointed in our stay here. If fact, we are returning for a week long stay in June 2002. I cannot wait to go back. We purchased the refillable mugs and used they daily at Roaring Forks. We have eaten at all of the dining spots at this resort and have never had a bad meal. We especially like Whispering Canyon Cafe. The all you can eat meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner were always good. The kids especially enjoyed the servers. They were very entertaining and made our meals very enjoyable. The kids loved the Lincoln log table and the stick horse races around the restrauant. One additional note--my sister celebrated her 29th birthday there and watching her ride the stick horse and sing Happy Birthday to herself will be a memory that I will never forget." (8/01) Becky

"We asked for Courtyard view, upper floors, and over the pool area. The view is outstanding and you are high enough that the pool noise is not bothersome. Great view of the pool area, the geyser, and the Electric Water Parade each night. If you want to keep an eye on the kids at the pool from your balcony, don't get the top floor because they have solid rails that prevent one from seeing the pool from the seated position. The kids really enjoy the bunk beds. The rooms served u s well, me, mom, and 2 teenage daughters (the dual sinks are needed). We have been so many times now that we know all of the transportation tricks. Be sure to see some of the transportation tips elsewhere if you want to quickly get to the Poly or GF without going to the TTC. The lobby and grounds of the WL are breathtaking. If you have time, renting bikes or walking over to Ft. Wilderness is recomended. It's good exercise and they have an animal petting area and horseback riding availabl e If you're interested, ask about the "flag family" when you check in. One family each morning gets to meet with the "Ranger" and go to the top of the Lodge (GREAT views of WDW) and raise the flags. You can take some neat photos and sometimes a family gets a certificate for breakfast at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. We've been to WL at all seasons of the year, but between Thanksgiving and Christmas is special. The Chrismas decorations and atmosphere are hard to beat. If you stay for several days, get the refillable mugs, you get free refills of softdrinks, coffee, hot tea, etc. at the canteen. We've been using the same ones since 1995 and it's saved us a lot of $.
Artist Point - We loved it. I especially liked the Cedar Plank Salmon. My wife has enjoyed venison, lamb, and duck. The salads are excellent, and the wine list is very good. Whispering Canyon - We've only eaten breakfast here, all you can eat. Usually very good. Be sure and have one of your kids or your spouse ask for some ketchup (the results can be quite humorous). Roaring Forks - Usually where we got our breakfasts. I usually got up and showered and dressed and then went to get breakfast (with our refillable mugs) while the wife and kids got up and ready. We could eat a hardy meal and be on our way.
We have rented the Water Mouses (small individual motor boats) several times. Not cheap, but LOTS of fun. You can ride to the campgroung, Contemporary, GF, and Poly and bounce over wakes, etc. Just be CAREFUL (watch for other traffic) and follow the rules in No Wake areas." (4/00) Jeff

"This was our honeymoon and what a romantic place. Though my wife had been to WDW as a child, this was my first time. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge...our expectations were surpassed. The atmosphere was beautiful and the cast members added to the magic with their costumes and "character" role playing being consistant with the theme. If the budget permits, I would highly recommend Wilderness Lodge to anyone!" (10/01) Jason

"WE SPENT A WEEK IN THE NEW WILDERNESS LODGE SUITES LAST YEAR,FOR THE NEW YEARS HOLIDAYS.IT WAS GREAT.THE ROOMS WERE ROOMY,WELL DECORATED.WE HAD TWO BEDROOMS.IT WAS PERFECT.ALSO A FULL KITCHEN.WHICH I USED TO COOK SOME GOOD OLD LOUISIANA CUISINE...WE HAD 3 ADULTS AND TWO TEENAGE BOYS IN THE ROOM.WE NEVER SEEM TO BE FALLING OVER ONE ANOTHER.ALSO HAD WASHER AND DRYER.WHICH HELPED A LOT.I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THE WILDERNESS LODGE FOR ABOUT 5 YRS....THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME SPENDING A VAC A TION THERE...WAS MY DREAM.I DRIVE A 18 WHEELER FOR A LIVING.SO I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO VISIT THE LODGE DURING MY LAYOVERS IN THE WORLD.I HAVE BEEN AT MY MOST LAID BACK RESIDING IN THE LODGES MOST COMFORTABLE COUCHES AND CHAIRS.LISTENING TO THE WONDERFUL MUSIC THAT IS PLAYED IN THE LOBBY...FOUND THE QUIET ALCOVES THAT ARE TUCKED AWAY IN THE UPPER FLOORS...SIMPLY PERFECT.HAVE BEEN A REGULAR IN THE AWARD WINNING ARTIST POINT.I FIND IT DISTRESSING TO HEAR OF FOLKS NOT HAVING THE MOST RELA X ING AND WONDERFUL TIME THERE.I FIND THE BOAT RIDE TO THE MAGIC KINGDOM OR TO THE CONTEMPORY RESORT A QUIET TIME TO REFLECT.I TELL THE FOLKS WHO ARE PLANNING A TRIP THERE TO NOT TO GO IF THEY ARE IN A HURRY.THIS PLACE I BELIEVE IS MEANT FOR THE HEART TO REST TOO.THE WILDERNESS LODGE IS IN MY EYES THE MOST BEAUTIFUL,PERFECT VACATION SPOT YOU CAN HAVE." "We were changing hotels(from Port Orleans)and checked in @ 9am-our room was ready-I asked for aroom on the 6th floor with a view of the lake-and got just that-nice room with a great view(room 6041).We really enjoyed this hotel-everything from service to the food was great-the only problem was th transportation. It was horrible-we shared buses with the Polynisian & G Floridian. We also shared boats with Ft Wilderness campground-Took 45 minutes minimum to get anywhere-we finally complained(hated to because we're Disney crazy-but felt that for all that $$$$ we should have our own buses & boats)-Andrew @ Transporation was very nice and ofered us a private van to drive us around. We were leaving the next day so declined the nice offer but wouldn't go back to that hotel again
The food court is small but hs a good selection of fast food. Whispering Canyon was a loud and fun place. We all(4) ordered the skillet dinner which was okay but not worth 22.95 per person. Was very nice but for the horribe transportation." (6/01) Joanne

"I REALLY ENJOYED STAYING AT THIS RESORT. MY MOM AND I STAYED HERE FOR THREE NIGHTS. THE SERVICE IN OUR ROOM WAS GREAT. EVERYTHING WAS KEPT VERY CLEAN. THE DINING ROOM IN THE LODGE WAS TERRIFIC. IT WAS A HOOT. THE CAST MEMBERS HAD A LOT OF FUN PLAYING WITH EVERYONE, AND GETTING THEM INVOLVED WITH WHAT WAS GOING ON AROUND THEM. I HELPED COLLECT KETCHUP BOTTLES FOR ANYONE THAT WANTED "THAT NASTY RED STUFF" AS ONE CAST MEMBER PUT IT. IF IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY, THEY MAY MAKE YOU RUN AROUND THE DINING ROOM AND A BROOMSTICK HORSE. THE LOBBY OF THE LODGE ITSELF WAS VERY RELAXING. WE HAD A GOOD, PEACEFUL TIME JUST SITTING IN FRONT OF THE BIG STONE FIREPLACE." (Dec 00) MAGGIE SUGGS

"The hotel and grounds were beautiful. The cast members were polite and helpful. We had a courtyard view and was able to see the electric light parade at night. The only problem was the transoprtation. It took 45 minutes to go anywhere. It was very frusterating and time consuming.
My family and I ate at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. It had good food but was very over priced for the amount and the quality.
The hotel was clean and beautiful. The cast members were helpful and friendly. The transportation was horrible. It took over 45 minutes to get anywhere and buses only picked up every 45 miunutes at certain stops." Casey (6/01)

"We were indifferent about our room in the wilderness lodge. We requested a fourth floor room which we got, also woods view so we could see the magic kingdom at nite as well as the water pagent and fireworks. As for the room itself it was small and clean with the exception of the smell in the bathroom (before we got there). When i called the problem was fixed immediatley. i would definitley still stay in a disney resort but not wilderness lodge.
The theming was particularly wonderful from the lobby to the geyser." (3/01) Beth

"We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, which truly is beautifully themed. Our room number was 2007, which was kind of interesting, because first of all John, my husband is a HUGE James Bond fan (007) and 2007 is his private phone line number here at WIU. The room had a courtyard view but this was almost completely blocked by trees. If you went out on the balcony and leaned over it you could sort of see the waterfall. I was really disappointed with this view as, of course, we had paid extra for it.
The room was very nice and although everyone says they are smaller than other deluxe rooms, we didn't notice. Of course, this time it was just three of us rather than the usual five as our two older sons did not go withus this time.
Our room was conveniently located close to the boat dock to the Magic Kingdom and the pool. However, it was a VERY long walk to the bus stop. I would recommend that anyone staying here ask for a room with a larger number. These rooms would be on the other wing, would still be close to the boat dock, but MUCH closer to the bus stop.
But transportation was fair. It wasn't as bad as I was led to believe, but it was slow, and often you took one bus to the transportation center and then transferred to another bus. The boat ride to the MK was fun, but after awhile it got old. We learned quickly however how to juggle transportation to avoid a long walk or to get somewhere quickly.
We ate at Roaring Forks (food court), Whispering Canyon (family restaurant) and Artist's Point. The food at Roaring Forks was good and convenient. We used the the refillable mugs a lot.
The Wilderness Lodge is a great place for family with young children under 10. There are a lot of activities that cater towards these children. It is also a great place if you are a couple. But if your child is 13 it's not so good. The arcade is small and out of date. When Ted (the above mentioned 13 year old) wanted to go off on his own, there really wasn't much he could do. He did enjoy the marina and they let him have his own boat rather than make John ride with him. He loved that.
The pool was nice, but there were ducks in the water a lot of the time and they are extremely aggressive, demanding food and being obnoxious if you don't give them any. " (03/01) Debbie Maguire

"Your web page was a great asset in my planning. Our vacation was wonderful. We spent a week at the Wilderness Lodge in October. In addition, we took advantage of being the Flag Family. Boy did my son have a ball. Also, Lorenzo, my son, had a blast at the Whispering Canyon Cafe! The staff really made our dining an experience, especially my birthday. When my wife asked the waiter about a cake for the my birthday, she didn't realize what I was in for. I had to ride a wooden pony around the perimeter of the dining while sing happy birthday. I'm a good sport and did it!" Brian Logan. See Brian's photos on the photos pages.
