British Airways' World Traveller service
features the most comprehensive range of services and benefits
ever for passengers flying longhaul in an "economy" cabin.
It aims to offer greater comfort, increased
flexibility and more value for money for those travelling for
business or leisure. At its heart is a new focus on families
with infant seats, baby cots and 'feed kids first' policy.
An extensive research programme lies
behind the service. Families from around the UK were 'shadowed'
on flights to identify how their journey could be improved.
Features include:
· Ergonomically designed
seats with adjustable headrests and footrests and more knee room.
· Personal video screens and audio for every passenger, with up to
18 channels, including a dedicated children and family channel, as well as 12
channels of audio programmes.
· Enhanced catering service with new menus offering a choice of hot
entrées.

'Feed Kids First' policy, special children's meals, toys and games to keep children

print their boarding card.
· Seat reservation may be requested at time of booking subject to
availability.
More than 11 million passengers fly
on World Traveller each year.
World
Traveller Plus
World Traveller Plus is
British Airways' premier economy product. The airline was the
first global commercial carrier to introduce a fourth class
of travel back in 2000.
The service is aimed at
the cost conscious business traveller and discerning leisure
passenger who want more space and privacy than in World Traveller.
It features a separate cabin,
wider seats built by German-based racing car seat designer
Recaro and the technology to work or relax.
It follows extensive research
which showed that customers wanted greater comfort and quality
at an affordable price.
Key elements of World Traveller
Plus include:
· A dedicated
cabin and interior to set it apart from World Traveller. It
features five rows with a 2-4-2 configuration offering up to
40 seats on the airline's fleet of B747s and B777 aircraft. On
our 767 fleet fitted with World Traveller Plus the seat configuration
is 2-2-2.
· Wider seats with greater legroom - 38ins pitch compared to 31ins
for World Traveller), with fully adjustable headrest, foot rest and lumbar support.
· In-seat power and telephones giving passengers the opportunity
to work.
· Double hand baggage allowance - up to 12 kg maximum with one piece
not exceeding 9 kg.
· Seat back entertainment - 16 games and up to 18 channels of entertainment
offering the latest blockbuster films, comedy, drama and news programmes, as
well as 12 channels of audio programmes.
· Opportunities to earn extra Air Miles and Executive Club points.
· Online check-in, fast baggage drop and the advantage of electronic
self-service check-in at major UK and European airports.
Research commissioned by
British Airways has found that the typical World Traveller
Plus passenger tends to be self-employed or work for small
to medium sized businesses. A number of leisure travellers,
such as honeymooners, who want to treat themselves to a little
extra luxury also make up an element of the cabin.
World Traveller Plus is
available on all longhaul destinations on the British Airways
network
(Excluding ACC, EBB, LUN, NAS/GCM, TLV, DAR, MAN-JFK)
Club
World
British Airways was the first international airline
to offer a seat that converts to a completely flat six foot bed
for business class travellers.
Club World was developed following extensive customer
research and sleep studies with ergonomic experts. Customers
told us they wanted real sleep, comfort, space, privacy, flexibility
and the ability to maximise their time.
The seats are designed in forward and rearward facing
pairs and are configured to create a lounge style environment
with 20 in the upper deck of a B747 and up to 50 in the main
deck of B747s and B777s. Each armchair-like seat, complete with
footstool, converts to a six foot fully flat bed at the touch
of a button. The unique lounge style layout is designed
to maximise personal space and privacy, with each seat also featuring
individual privacy screens which can be opened or closed dependent
on whether customers are travelling alone. Traditional side-by-side
seating is also available if customers prefer.
The bed was designed by leading UK-based design agency
Tangerine, working with British Airways' Design Management team.
In February 2005, the airline enhanced the multi-award
winning Club World flat bed with the latest cushioning technology
to provide customers with more comfort and further ergonomic
support. This is the first time such cushioning has been
used in an airline seat.
Customers can also take advantage of larger pillows
and higher quality thicker blankets to help them sleep even better.
There will be new improved menus designed by the
airline's 'culinary council' of celebrity chefs and meals will
be served on the finest quality Royal Doulton China.
The Sleeper Service
The Sleeper Service was launched in April 2004 on
selected East Coast transatlantic and Middle East flights departing
from 7.30pm onwards. The Sleeper Service is a new service in
Club World on selected overnight flights, created to provide
longer, undisturbed sleep time on-board. The Sleeper Service
offers up to five dining options throughout the journey, a more
tranquil cabin with fewer announcements and the usual complimentary
spa treatments. Pre-flight supper is available in the Terraces
Lounge to dine before the flight. In addition, the cabin crew
will ask the customer at the beginning of the flight if they
would like to be woken for breakfast before landing.
Club World features include:
· Fully flat bed - The first and only
business class to feature a six foot completely flat bed, with
an equivalent seat pitch of 73 inches.
· Unique footstool - Makes the most of the generous legroom and allows
customers to really stretch their legs out and relax. As well as being the end
of the six foot flat bed the footstool is fully adjustable in height and on a
pivot which allows the customer to position it according to their height and
swivel the stool around or stow it completely to provide easy access to and from
the seat.
· Armchair-like support - The ergonomically designed seat is fully
electronic with integrated lumbar support and can adopt any recline position
between fully upright and completely flat. It has a fully adjustable headrest
with 'ears' to provide support.
· Lounge in the Sky: - "Lounge in the sky" environment and interiors;
with seats no longer configured in standard rows, the unique and innovative layout
maximised personal space and privacy and has been designed to provide a more
relaxed and home-like feel in the cabin. Less seats in each cabin means 30 per
cent more personal space overall. Cabins have recently been refreshed with
dark blue seat covers and complemented by photographs showing scenes of "Beautiful
Britain" in tones of blue to create a restful and private cabin ambience.
· Greater in-flight entertainment choice
- A choice of 16 games and up to 18 channels of film and TV with
a larger adjustable 8.4 inch screen for easy viewing, as well
as 12 channels of audio programmes.
· Catering - Features classic white china
and simpler, good quality food - pastas, creamy mash potatoes,
and salads prepared fresh from the galley. Customers can also
choose to pre-flight dine out of major US east coast destination
prior to flying to maximise sleep time on board. Alternatively
they can opt for the Goodnight service on board, an express service
of a lighter snack for those who want to sleep straight away.
Raid the larder service is also available, allowing customers
to help themselves to treats and snacks.
· On-board washbags - Wash bags and washrooms
featuring products from Molton Brown complement the range of
beauty and spa treatments in the Arrivals Lounges at Gatwick
and Heathrow airports.
· Business amenities - In seat laptop power points and telephones
give customers the opportunity to work and stay in touch.
· Hand baggage allowance: - To suit business needs, customers are
allowed two pieces of hand baggage weighing up to a total of 18kg.
· Departure Lounges - The 'Terraces'
concept is available in British Airways lounges at airports around
the world. The design philosophy for the lounges brings together
an open, airy and refreshing environment offering you choice,
flexibility, allowing customers to make the most of their time.
Arrivals Lounges at Heathrow have showers, suit pressing service,
health and beauty services, and business facilities. Gatwick
also has an Arrivals Lounge.
First
British Airways
has long been a market leader in first class travel. The
airline initially introduced FIRST on-board its aircraft in
1978. Over the years there has been several changes to
the product including newly refreshed interiors and product
improvements on the ground.
British Airways
was the first commercial airline to introduce a revolutionary
'flat bed' in 1996, featuring individual cabins with electronically-controlled
seats that convert to a six foot six inch bed,
allowing passengers to choose whether to sleep, work or relax
at anytime during their journey in complete privacy.
The FIRST cabin
was re-designed by leading British interior designer Kelly
Hoppen in January 2000 as part of a £20 million investment. This
was part of a British Airways' biggest ever programme of product
improvements for premium passengers.
Kelly Hoppen
is famous for her innovative, calm and uncluttered style that
conveys a simultaneous impression of both luxury and simplicity. Her
use of texture, form and tone creates an atmosphere of balance,
harmony and relaxation, the perfect environment for travel.
Kelly Hoppen's
brief was to emulate the style and quality of the interior
of a Rolls Royce in flight using only the best fabrics and
textures - Connolly leather, burr walnut wood effect, cashmere-style
and velvet fabrics in a colour palette of blue, her signature
taupe colour and a deep rich red.
FIRST customers
can be assured of the highest standards of service and attention
to detail at every stage of their journey. Exceptional
comfort and refined surroundings combine with an individual
yet discreet style of service to create a flying experience
that is unmistakably FIRST.
Key features include:
Fully flat beds
London based
design agency Design Acumen created the mould-breaking FIRST
cabin. The challenge was to produce a truly flat bed
in the sky with appropriate levels of privacy, access and personal
facilities, demanding a highly innovative approach to the use
of space. There are 14 individual cabins on Boeing 747s
and up to 17 on some Boeing 777 aircraft.
Each individual
cabin seat converts into a completely flat 6 foot six inch
bed at the touch of a button, and with sleeper suits, blankets
and pillows, passengers are able to sleep undisturbed in total
privacy in individual personal cabins.
An electronic
control provides the ability to change the seat position at
the touch of a button; the adjustable recline for relaxation;
a new enhanced lumbar support ensures optimum comfort; and
the extendable footrest gives the ability to stretch out.
A dimmer light
allows passengers to control their personal environment and
each cabin has extra storage space in overhead lockers and
under seats.
Buddy seats
- Each cabin features a buddy seat to allow travellers to discuss
business matters with a colleague or enjoy a meal with another
passenger in privacy.
A-la-carte
Dining
Any item from
the First menu can be ordered at any time during the flight,
from five-course meals to light snacks. British Airways
employs a 'culinary council' made up of some of the world's
most renowned chefs who work in close collaboration with British
Airways' catering team to create exclusive dishes for First
passengers. Regional specialities are also available
on individual routes.
Pre-flight
meals are served on selected short overnight services allowing
passengers to eat before boarding the aircraft and maximise
their sleep time in-flight. This service is available
on selected flights from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports,
New York's John F Kennedy and Newark, Philadelphia, Washington,
Toronto, Detroit and Boston airports.
The finest
wines, champagnes and spirits from around the world are served
throughout the flight.
Chiva-Som spa
cuisine
The airline
has recently joined forces with Thailand's world-renowned luxury
health resort, Chiva-Som to provide spa cuisine dishes on flights
between Heathrow, New York, Bangkok, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne,
Hong Kong, Newark, Washington, Dubai, Miami, San Francisco
and Los Angeles. British Airways is the first airline to introduce
spa cuisine on its flights offering greater choice and flexibility
and responding to the changing lifestyles of its customers.
Customers can
enjoy creative, tasty, well-balanced and nutritious low calorie
dishes. Chiva-Som's award-winning spa cuisine draws on
the fundaments of Thai culinary art to deliver light, creative,
well-balanced, easily digestible low calorie dishes. The
new spa cuisine options are in addition to the present a la
carte dishes.
In-flight entertainment
A choice of
16 games and up to 18 channels of entertainment are available,
including the latest box office successes, comedy, documentaries
and sport.
In addition
personal video players allow passengers to watch what they
want, when they want, from a choice of 25 titles from the FIRST
video library
12 audio channels
enable the listener to tune into anything from classical to
pop, relaxation and easy listening music, as well as the dedicated
well-being audio channel designed to help passengers relax
and unwind.
From 1 July,
2005 the airline introduced new noise cancelling headsets on-board
all services (except 767s). These, used in conjunction
with a new in-seat jack being embodied from late July 2005
to the end of March 2006 will deliver significantly improved
sound quality.
Each headset
includes a small microphone that measures the ambient noise
in the cabin and creates a reverse signal to eliminate the
sound.
Check-in
Dedicated check-in,
online check-in and fast track departure channels at Heathrow
and Gatwick ensure a smooth and uncomplicated passage through
the terminal. Fast track arrivals at London airports
are open until mid-day, to help speed non-EU passengers through
immigration with ease. Bags are given priority handling.
In July, 2005
a new check-in facility was opened at Heathrow's Terminal 4. The
area features rosewood walls, black desk cladding, a new floor
and improved lighting. This creates a more exclusive environment
to encourage our customers to enjoy the highest level of personal
service. This represents the first major refurbishment of the
area since the terminal opened and brings it in line with the
Premium Check-in Zone at Heathrow's Terminal 1 (Zone R).
Lounges
FIRST Lounge
Pavilions at Heathrow and Gatwick airports are fully equipped
with business facilities including telephone and fax machines
and access (via the oneworld network) to over 60 British Airways
lounges world-wide.
A new departure
lounge was opened this year at Heathrow's Terminal 1, including
the airline's first dedicated champagne bar. The bar
was designed by Stewart Burnett Associates and offers some
of the finest onboard champagnes including Perrier Jouet, Laurent
Perrier and Charles Heidsieck Rose.
First class
passengers can also take advantage of the Molton Brown Travel
Spa at Heathrow and New York's JFK airport offering complimentary
therapies that have been tailor made to suit British Airways
male and female passengers.
The Spa is a dedicated therapy centre filled with mood-sensitive
colours, aromas, sounds and sensations harmonized with soothing
textures, lighting and state-of-the-art design. Created
exclusively for the traveller, the Travel Spa offers a groundbreaking
range of performance services from sleep enhancers and nerve
stabilizers, to mind-sharpeners.
Amenity kits
Handbag designer Anya Hindmarch has designed her in-flight amenity
kit to include aromatherapy-based products such as Sleep Enhancer
created by Anastasia Alexander, founder of the Aroma Therapeutics
range of beauty products.
New additions
to the washbag include products from top British facialist
Amanda Lacey and leading skincare brand REN.
Each passenger
is offered a bag containing socks and eyeshades, Aroma Therapeutics
'fresh face' moisturizing spray, a toothbrush and Elgydium
toothpaste plus a selection of REN products including lip balm,
eye gel and mouthwash.
There is also
a dedicated male and female pocket. The ladies pocket
contains Amanda Lacey's rich textured cleansing pomade, waffle
cloth and luxury moisturising cream while gentlemen will receive
a Wilkinson Sword razor and REN shaving cream.
