Back to Universal Studios
If you want to dine at
one of the CityWalk restaurants, make reservations at least two
months in advance.
When the park opens, try
to do the most popular rides first - Back to the Future, Earthquake
and Jaws.
The Back to the Future
ride is very intense, and you get thrown around quite a lot.
At the end of the ET ride,
listen out for ET saying your name (or trying to!).
Visit Barney late in the day when the lines should be shorter.
When you enter Twister, stay to the back right as you enter the
theater.
Save the indoor shows for the afternoon when it's too hot outside.
If Terminator 2 gets too much for you, take off the 3D glasses.
Props from different films can be found all around the paek, look
out for the train from Back to the Future 3, and a truck from the
Lost World.
Attractions suitable for
small children include - Woody Woodpecker's KidZone, Nickelodeon
Studios, Fievel's Playland, A Day in the Park with Barney and The
Animal Actor's Show.
If you're short on time,
or visiting on a busy day, consider getting the Universal
Express Plus pass.
If you're unable to ride
Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast or Shrek due to health problems,
ask the ride attendant if you can sit in one of the stationary seats.
Smoking is only permitted
in designated areas, see the park map for details.
See the attraction and show times guide for when and where you can
meet your favourite characters.
Certain attractions only open an hour or two after park opening,
so be sure to check the attraction and show times guide when you
arrive.
Someone missing from your photo? Stop and ask any Universal employee
to take your picture for you!
Child switch - parties
with a small child may take advantage of the child switch program.
This allows one member of the party to watch over the child while
the rest of the party waits, rides, then changes places so they
may enjoy the ride as well.
IOA, and Universal have
free lockers for 45 minutes while you do various rides: IOA: Duelling
Dragons, Hulk, Universal: MIB - Ant
The second day on a universal
pass last INDEFINITELY - Ant
Get a Universal Pass from
the Official Universal stall in Belz Mall - mall 1 - this gets you
20 percent off all your food, drink and merchandise in the park.
- Ant
Universal Express, the
fastpass equivalent at Universal and IOA, doesn't allow you to get
another ticket until the end of your previous timeslot, whereas
disney allows you to get another one about five minutes after the
beginning of your previous time slot. so for example if you had
a ticket valid between 12.55 and 1.55, at diney you could go get
another fastpass at 1.00, whereas at Universal, it would reject
your request until about 1.45... - Ant
Terminator 2 3D is now fixed showings, rather than continous throughout
the day. This means you end up queuing outside for up to half an
hour with no shade - make sure you've got a bottle of water! Also
the sign is misleading. It says attraction open at xxx yyy zzz etc,
but suppose the sign says 5.30, and you turn up at 5.25, they won;t
let you in, as they've already let everyone at about 5.15 - 5.30
is the last showing. - Ant
At the MIB rides, you get more points the further away the aliens
are, also as soon as your little red button starts flashing, press
it, even before Z says "There's only one thing for it - push the
Red Button" - doing this first gets you an extra 100,000 points.
- Ant
Take spare clothes to IOA and AK as both their Raft rides are very,
very wet, i.e it took my jeans 2 days to dry! - we're not talking
slighly splashed here. They both have lockers at about 5 dollars
for the day. - Ant
"If you are planning on eating at The Hard Rock Cafe,
don't try to make reservations over the phone -- they don't take
them -- HOWEVER -- you make set up a time for preferred seating
is you go to www.hardrock.com
-- go the the PX section -- you can punch in your own time and date,
and avoid waiting in long lines!!!" DGT
"a bit obvious i know but do the main attractions at
the back of the parks first as they don't get so packed"
"For the parking at Universal (Studios and IoA), the
Preferred parking ($13) is no better than regular ($8) as it seems
very hit-and-miss as to whether you'll get closer to the moving
escalators that take you down the walk-way to City Walk. We went
four days in Feb 2005 and on the day we used the preferred parking,
we were directed to a section further away than the days we did
the regular parking. Regardless of how far away you park, the moving
escalators make it an easy "walk" to the parks, so save
the extra $5." Berny
